Ashtanga Yoga
Asthanga yoga, the eight limbs yoga, is presented in the second chapter of the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali.
It has been conceived to guide people who have difficulty to quiet down their mind to come into the state of yoga.
The state of yoga is the ability to direct the mind and to keep it directed into one direction. As we all notice, we do something but our mind is into thousands of other directions ! Yoga help us to focus.
With a regular practice of the eight limbs of yoga, it is possible to reach the state of yoga.
Those eight aspects are :
- yama, our behaviour towards the outside world
- niyama, self discipline, daily maintenance
- asana, the posture
- pranayama, conscious breathing
- pratyahara, withdrawing of our senses, how to use the senses to help our objectives
- dharana, concentration
- dhyana, meditation
- samadhi, unification.
With a regular practice of asthanga yoga, we developp understanding, we become more aware, more conscious.
Impurities are cleaned and confusion is reduced. The mind is more clear and our capacity to discern is developped.
